Introducing Jackie Robinson includes three reading passages accompanied by comprehension and vocabulary questions and a vocabulary quiz.
The first text covers Jackie Robinson’s childhood up to and including his high school years. The second passage is about his early adulthood as a college student and his stint in the army during WWII. The third passage concentrates on his life as a baseball player.
All three of the biographical passages have questions (comprehension and opinion-generating) on the right side of the page - the texts and the accompanying questions can therefore be used in class as bellringer activities. Each one also has a “Language Use” activity and/or a short writing assignment.
The resource also includes a vocabulary quiz. There are eight statements about Robinson based on information found in the passages. Students are asked to replace the underlined word from a choice of four - the correct answer has the same meaning as the underlined word and importantly, the correct choice word appears in one of the texts (the first three words are from the first passage, the second three from the second passage, and the last two are found in the last passage).
