Product Description
This pack includes several different activities. First, a PowerPoint describing life in the 1940’s and 1950’s. I selected these two decades as they were when Robinson was most active in baseball. Students can watch the PowerPoint to help them compare their life to the life of Jackie Robinson. The following topics are discussed in the PowerPoint:

• Food
• Clothing
• Homes
• Transportation
• Communication
• Recreation
• Rights and Freedoms

These topics were selected straight from the Georgia Standard “SS2H1 The student will read about and describe the lives of historical figures in Georgia history b. Describe how everyday life of these historical figures is similar to and different from everyday life in the present (food, clothing, homes, transportation, communication, recreation, rights, and freedoms).”

These two activities are perfect for comparing life today and during the time of Jackie Robinson. Two activities are included. One large Venn Diagram and a Venn Diagram flip book for interactive notebooks are included. Students can complete the activities either while watching the PowerPoint or after.

Teacher directions for using the interactive power point are included. Please note, that all images are locked and this PowerPoint is NOT able to be edited.

After learning about Jackie Robinson, students can complete a paper bag project. The project includes:
Comparing and contrasting the students’ life today to the Life of Jackie Robinson
• Explaining how segregation affected Robinson
• Explaining why Robinson is remembered today
• Cut and paste timeline of Robinson’s Life

Inside each pocket of the paper bag book are “artifacts” of student learning. The following artifacts are included:
Drawing a paper doll person showing the clothing of today and during Robinson’s life.
Defining the term segregation.
Color coding a political map of Robinson’s life (3 important events are highlighted on the map).

In 2017 the Georgia standards (GPS) will change to the GSE. To match that standards change teachers can replace the pages comparing life today to the past and the paper dolls (which are no longer in the standard). Instead, students can write how Robinson displayed sportsmanship and supported civil rights and draw a picture to match for the artifact in the pocket.
