Andrew Jackson was a General in the War of 1812. He became a national hero in the Battle of New Orleans the last great battle of the war.
He was the first president that was not from one of the original thirteen states and was known to be a man of the people. He was nicknamed Old Hickory. His home is named the Hermitage.
