Jake Drake Know-It-All Literature Unit
This unit is set up for working with a small literature study group.
The teacher copy includes:
Chapter Summaries, Vocabulary, Fiction Plot Diagram, and Questions
Vocabulary Definitions and Answers to Questions
Vocabulary Definitions are from: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary
**Questions are based on Level O Guided Reading Comprehension Questions from Fountas and PInnell.
Questions: The student copy includes lines for answers to the questions. **Students should be conscious of including evidence from the text in their answers. It is good practice for students to write their answers using complete sentences.
Vocabulary: I’ve included one separate page with two Frayer Model templates. You may want to print many back to back copies of this page to be available for the students to use while reading the entire book. Encourage learners to write definitions using their own words. I’ve included the page number and sentence for each identified vocabulary word.
Chapter Summaries: I’ve included one separate page with three text boxes for chapter summaries. You may want to print many back to back copies of this page for students to use while reading the entire book. There are 11 chapters. Each reader will need 4 chapter summary pages.
OR, you may choose to only hand out one chapter summary text box per reader, and ask the students to tape it in their reader’s response notebook to use as a template for writing the chapter summaries.
Fiction Plot Diagram: Print out one plot diagram per student.
