Before and After
This Jake number pack has 5 different number activities working with the numbers 1 - 10. Children love Jake so they are super excited to do these activities.
Count With Jake (small or whole group)
Print the mats and set cards on cardstock and laminate them.
You can use the 1 - 5 mat, the 6 – 10 mat, or both. There are ten cards for each number. Give each child ten cards or a fewer amount. They will count the sets on the cards and put them beside the number. Stack the sets with the same amount on top of each other.
Another way to use these mats is to have the children identify the number and place that many unifix cubes or any other manipulative beside the number.
Comparing Sets (small group or whole group)
Small Group – Give each child the Greater Than/Less Than labels. Give them a set of set cards that have the same pictures. They will take 2 cards, count the sets, and place them under the correct label.
Another way to use this activity is to give the children the Greater Than, Less Than, and Equal Labels. Give the children set cards that have different pictures on them. They will take 2 cards, count the sets, and place them under the correct label. If the cards are equal, the children will place them under the Equal To label, stacked on top of each other.
I also included labels with More Than and Fewer Than on them.
Whole Group – Place the labels in a pocket chart. Give children a card to place under the correct label. This activity can also be used in a small group using the pocket chart.
Comparing Sets With Tick-Tock (small group or whole group)
Small Group - Give each child the Tick-Tock cards with <, >, and = on them. Give them a set of set cards. They will take 2 cards, count the sets, and place the correct Tick-Tock card between them to show greater than, less than, or equal to.
Whole Group – Place 2 set cards in a pocket chart. Children will place the Tick-Tock card between the sets to show greater than, less than, or equal to.
Ordering Sets (small group or whole group)
Give the children a set of set cards with the same pictures on them. They will count and order the sets from 1 to 10.
You can also give the children set cards to order by amount from smallest to largest. (3, 5, 7, 10) This is a kindergarten standard and is difficult for my students.
You can do this in a pocket chart whole group or small group.
Before and After
Give the children a set of cards with the same picture on them. They will place 1 card on the table/floor and count the set. They will then find the set card that comes before and after the given set.
You can just work with the set that comes before the given set or just work with the set that comes after.
