Following that, the video cover's two main topics of Monroe's presidency, the Missouri Compromise and the Monroe Doctrine. Following the video, students will proceed to the History.com website and read a biographical article about James Monroe. His early years, his time in the Revolutionary Army, the founding of the Democrat-Republicans, and his early mission abroad are all covered. His roles in Washington's, Jefferson's, and Madison's presidencies are all discussed. His role in the Louisiana Purchase is specifically detailed. The article again reviews his two terms as president and concludes with his final years and death.
