This Word document is a synopsis of the plot of James and the Giant Peach in "Fill in the Blanks" format. It is divided into individual chapter units. There are 17 pages for students to complete.
Students demonstrate their understanding of the plot by completing the cloze. It could be used for assessment or for revision. I generally use this immediately after we've read a chapter to ensure that everyone is familiar with the story. This yields greater success with follow-on activities (questions, written assignments etc..)
As a specialist teacher for weaker students, I find this approach a very useful support for those who need scaffolding to help them focus on core plot elements. It's an activity that students really enjoy as it's not as difficult as writing their own summaries / making notes.
Students are actively learning when completing the exercise.
A word bank is provided at the end of each chapter to assist students.
The solution is also included (9 pages).
