My students love booklets! Here is a fact sort that can be glued into a booklet to cover the new VA social sciences content on Jamestown.
To do this activity, students will cut pages 1-3 in half to create a 6 page booklet on Jamestown. Students will cut apart mixed facts from their "My Jamestown Facts" sheet and sort them by category before gluing them to the appropriate page of their booklets. They choose the appropriate facts that belong on the pages of their booklets!
Pages include a title page, a full-text page about the settlement of Jamestown, blank pages for Struggles in Jamestown, Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas, and Christopher Newport that they will add in following the fact sort.
If you teach first grade in Virginia, this booklet is a MUST. I was having a hard time finding age-appropriate content in simple language to teach these new Virginia standards, so I did some research and created my own!
This would be a great introductory or culminating activity to help students organize new information on Jamestown. They can sort the facts independently or in small groups.
This PDF includes:
-A personal fact sort booklet on the Story of Jamestown with page numbers and pictures
-Jamestown facts sheet
-Fact sorting mat
-Fact sorting "cheat sheet" with answers
I will also throw in that I personally plan to use the "Chatterpix Kids" app to have my students create and share biographies of each character as an extension activity to this booklet.
Good luck, fellow VA educators (And anyone else who may find this product useful)!
