Here you will find the 8th lesson in the Jamestown Colony Unit focusing on the Jamestown’s Third Charter (between 1612 to 1625) and the establishment of formal representative government which became the roots of our present US Constitution. The lesson uses primary source documents from the era and provides students with an opportunity to interact with the documents in a DBQ based activities and analyze how these documents connect us to both the past and to the future.
All Easy Lit History Units by Cori Beckett have been both teacher and student tested across a variety of classrooms and within a diverse population of learners. Unlike many lesson guides and teacher units which have been written be individuals who have never been in a classroom or haven’t been in a classroom in years, be assured that all of these lessons are written out of the personal need of a teacher currently in the classroom. All lessons are engaging for the students and practical and simple for the teacher.
Each unit is Common Core Aligned. All units contain teacher background, student reading material, student worksheets, and primary source documents for use in the classroom. Student study worksheets may be easily used as a study guide for the student or a quick mini-quiz for the teacher. Unlike other commercially available products found on-line or in teacher supply stores, each Easy Lit Unit focuses on a specific reading skill throughout the course of the unit. This unique feature allows teachers to intensely target a key high-leverage reading strategy.
