Jamestown Settlement was the first permanent English settlement in North America. It was established on May 14, 1607. However, settling the new colony was extremely difficult. The cold weather, Indian attacks, a lack of survival skills, and a terribly cold winter and deadly diseases left only 60 settlers alive by spring.
Invite your students to join the adventure and learn all about the first settlement in the new world. Through journaling, researching the medicine available in 1607, and creative writing, your students will learn about the bravery and endurance of the colonists.
