This is a great writing task for teachers who want their students to think critically after studying both the Jamestown and Plymouth Colony. Or, this assignment could stand alone as a research writing project. Students are asked to write an essay in which they compare and contrast the Jamestown Colony to the Plymouth Colony in six complete paragraphs. Paragraphs include INTRO, GEOGRAPHY, REASON FOR SETTLEMENT, PROBLEMS FACED, and RELATIONSHP WITH NATIVE AMERICANS, and CONCLUSION. Each paragraph breakdown comes with guiding questions for the students to answer - this is especially helpful for differentiating your instruction. This also comes with a great graphic organizer - broken down paragraph by paragraph - to allow students who struggle with bringing their thoughts together a chance to write a great essay. Supports differentiation in that sense, as well. After you download the product, you can edit the due dates/delete the box altogether, depending on how you plan on using this activity.
