Your learners will develop some great thinking and comprehension skills while doing the activities in this pack for 1st and 2nd graders (K pack also available).
Story Sequencing Eggs: Cut eggs and place them in baggies for small groups to work together to place in order to create a story summary. Each member of the group can later take one egg and tell or write to provide more details about that story event.
Character Traits Eggs: Place cut out character eggs in a basket or in plastic eggs. As each is picked, hold a group discussion about that trait and which characters showed the trait in the story. Ask your learners how they could or have shown this trait in their life.
Comprehension Discussions: These questions will get your learners thinking more deeply about the story and characters. Choose questions appropriate for your group’s level.
Beginning, Middle and End of Story: Ask your learners to draw an important event from each part of the story. They may also write a summary using the illustrations they drew in the eggs (Paper included).
Writing Prompt: What was the most important event in the story? Ask your learners to write to explain and also to draw an illustration to match.
Character Web: Discuss the characters and actions that help us to understand what kind of character Hoppi is. Learners fill in the web with details that describe Hoppi. They may use the completed web to write to describe Hoppi.
