Jane Goodall, Her Life and Times is designed as a multi-purpose informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students and is a good resource for teaching nonfiction.
Each of the three texts can be used alone (but in sequence) and they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc. The three texts are chronological; Part 1 is titled “Jane’s Childhood”, Part 2 “Jane Goes to Africa”, and Part 3 “Observing Chimpanzees”.
Each text has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
Also included is a short quiz that consists of six multiple-choice questions and one short answer question.
A full answer key is included.
