Have you heard of Brag Tags?
You know, those awesome tags that are given out to students for good behavior. Kids collect them on b all-chain necklaces or those silver "o" rings that click and lock.
Well, in the same spirit of Brag Tags, these are BragMarks---bookmarks given to students who have completed reading a book and taken an AR test.
I use these with my class to motivate them to read and take AR tests. Since implementing them into my classroom, my kids are reading machines! And they can't wait to take the AR test on the book. I keep track of when they start and stop a book, which is also reported on the BragMark, as well as when they take the AR test and the score. Once reported to me, I give them a Brag Mark that's hole-punched and they attach it to their silver-clip rings. I motivate them even more by telling them theres only a limited number of each kind of Brag Mark, and like baseball cards, they want at least one of each!
It's made such a HUGE difference in independent reading in my classroom, and I'm sure it will in yours too.
Get them motivated and they will work. : )
