3-2-1, Happy New Year! Have you been looking for a way to provide more student voice and choice in your classroom? This January Holidays Choice Board is a great way to help students take ownership of their learning, while at the same time practicing essential reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Your students will have so much fun working on these activities about weird and wacky holidays in January that they won't even realize they are learning!

Please click the green PREVIEW button to see a complete look at the January Holidays Choice Board!

The January Choice Board includes 8 creative activities for students to choose from (based on the 8 multiple intelligences). Each activity references a national holiday that takes place in January. Choice Boards are great for early finishers, but can also work in a center rotation, or as independent work during your reading workshop time. You decide how many activities you want your students to complete, making differentiation a snap!

This is also a great idea to send home as monthly homework! My students' families loved working on these Choice Boards as an alternative to traditional (boring) worksheets.
Here's what you get:

❄️January Holidays Choice Board, including these activities:
❶ Art Smart- Hat Design Challenge (National Hat Day)
❷ Word Smart- Word Cloud (National Thesaurus Day)
❸ Logic Smart- Create a Puzzle (National Puzzle Day)
❹ Self Smart- Handwriting Challenge (National Handwriting Day)
❺ People Smart- New Year's Resolutions Debate (New Year's Day)
❻ Body Smart- Spaghetti Art (National Spaghetti Day)*
❼ Nature Smart- Local Bird Flipbook (National Bird Day)
❽ Music Smart- Popcorn Rap (National Popcorn Day)

*The Body Smart activity does require the students to use dry spaghetti pieces. If you do not want to purchase spaghetti pieces, you could ask for donations, turn that activity into a home project, or omit that activity from the students' choices.

❄️Activity Cards
The Activity Cards tell students exactly what they need to do to complete each project successfully.

❄️Activity Sheets
Each activity has a corresponding Activity Sheet. Some are planning sheets, while some are designed to house the completed activity.

Students are graded on 4 categories on a 1-4 scale. Read the rubric with the students beforehand so they know exactly what is expected!
