This packet contains a word work literacy menu with 9 activities for the month of January. Many centers have more than one option for differentiating instruction. These centers are common core aligned specifically for Kindergarten, but may be used for Prekindergarten and/or struggling First Graders. The activities on the menu can be used as literacy centers, early finisher activities, or in small groups.
Playdough: Use playdough to make letters, sight words, spelling words, etc.
Read It, Make It, Write It: Students will practice reading and writing short a word family words—ub, um, ug, and un. Depending upon the readiness of your students CVCC words are included.
Wintry Letter Fun: Pull a letter and write it in the cup of cocoa. Write the letters that come after.
Other Handed: If you are right handed write your words using your left hand. If you are left handed write your words using your right hand.
Snowflake Write the Room: This write the room activity is differentiated to fit the needs of your students. There are CVC, CCVC, and CVCC options.
Pattern Bock Letters: Use pattern blocks to form letters.
Magic Board: Practice writing letters, sight words, spelling words, etc. using a magic board.
Rocket Words:. Cut small squares from scrap paper. Write one letter inside each square. Add a small triangle to the top to create a rocket.
Snowball Fun: Choose a snowball picture card. Write the beginning sound: ch, sh, th, or wh in the snowballs below. Write the word on the line.
The snowball picture cards can also be used to play Bingo. Students will mark off the beginning sound : ch, th, sh, or wh—they hear as the words are called out.
