Product Description
This pack includes 8 math tub activities aligned with first grade common core. They include winter clip art.

*Winter Wonderland Word Problems- Students will read word problems and decide if they are addition or subtraction problems. They will use the work mat and their own drawings to solve the problem. They will record number sentences to represent the word problems on the provided recording sheet. Differentiate with how students show their thinking.
{1.OA.1}

*Frosty the Snowman- Students will solve missing addend equations. They will then roll a dice to gain pieces to build a snowman. The first player to build a snowman wins the game! Differentiate by having students use missing addend cards with addition, subtraction, or both for a challenge. Number line and recording sheet provided.
{1.OA.8}

*True or False Snow Fun- Students will sort cards under true or false headers. They will use manipulatives or place value blocks to show their thinking (depending on which set of cards they need). This math tub contains an option for differentiation- addition and subtraction cards to 20 and double digit plus single digit addition. Recording sheet provided.
{1.OA.7 & 1.NBT.4}

*All Bundled Up!- Students will choose a card and read the number in the center square. They will use place value blocks or the provided 120 chart to find one more than the number, one less, ten more, and ten less. Students can record these numbers on the recording sheet. For differentiation, have your higher students find the numbers mentally and then use the 120 chart to check their work.
{1.NBT.2 & 1.NBT.5}

*Just Hear Those Sleigh Bells Ring- Students will place all cards in the center and each partner will choose a card. They will create a doubles fact with their card. For instance, if they choose a '5', their number sentence would be 5 + 5 = 10. The person with the highest double fact sum gets to hold the bell. I use a silver bell that I bought at the crafting section of Hobby Lobby. The person with the bell at the end of the game is the winner and can ring the bell! Ten frame mat and recording sheet provided.
{Common Core Standard: 1.OA.6}

*Snow Much Greater- This is a partner game where students will each choose a card from the deck. They will compare their card to see whose number is larger (using the 120 chart provided or the ten frame cards provided). The person with the larger number gets to keep both player's cards. The person with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner! Recording sheet provided for students to compare their number to their partner's number. Differentiate by changing the way students have to prove their thinking.
{1.NBT.3}

*Mitten Match Up- Students will match the mitten number to the corresponding place value block card. To differentiate, have students who are ready use the provided spinner to add or subtract multiples of 10 from a mitten number after matching. Recording sheet provided.
{1.NBT.2}

*Snowy Subtraction- Students will work to cover 3 in a row on their game board. To do this, they will draw a card from the deck and form a subtraction sentence. You can differentiate by having them subtract from 20 or from 10. For instance, if students are subtracting from 10 and they choose a 2, their number sentence would be 10-2=8. Students can record their number sentence on the provided ten frame card, as well as solve the equation using a dry erase marker.
{1.OA.4}

I hope your students enjoy these math tubs as much as mine have! :)
