Product Description
Enjoy this January Monthly Write the Room Freebie! I love the concept of "Write the Room!" However, I teach 3rd grade and wanted to still do the activity, while making it a bit more challenging for older grades! This activity is so versatile, it is suitable for grades K through 4th! Please read through directions below.

Print, laminate, and cut winter word cards. Place word cards around your classroom. You may wish to use all 24 cards or just 12 cards. If you’d like to use all 24 cards, make sure to make double sided copies of pages 6 and 7. If not, just make single-sided copies of page 6.

Make copies of the Write the Room recording form and place at your literacy center.

Students will use a clipboard and “write the room” or walk around the classroom hunting for the words and recording them. Students will be practicing handwriting, decoding skills using the pictures, and new vocabulary. If directed, students may read their recorded words to a partner when done.

Older children can be challenged (after completing the initial Write the Room activity from above), by completing Write the Room Sentences. Students will be challenged to write ten sentences using at least one winter word in each sentence. Once completed, students can pencil sketch at least 5 of their winter words into the scene to complete the picture. Students will finish by coloring the picture with crayons. Make sure to copy pages 8 and 9 for this activity.

Older students can even be further challenged by writing a winter story using at least ten of their winter words from their Write the Room recording form. Make sure to copy pages 10 and 11 for this activity.
