Asia Geography Worksheets for Australian Curriculum

I designed this series of worksheets to be used as a general orientation to Asia for Middle School students.

(This worksheet is available in a package with multiple worksheets here: Duffy's Asia Australia Geography Worksheets Package)

I have been developing them to be an introduction to an integrated unit of Year 8 History (Shogunate Japan) and Year 8 Geography (Unit 2: Changing Nations).

Each of these worksheets has been designed for students to make connections between their own world (i.e. Australia) and that of Asia. Each involves access to Google Maps, Wikipedia or the CIA World Factbook, though I have used printouts when faced with technical emergencies (such as the frequent disruption of my school’s network!). Each involves visual tasks, written tasks and several numeracy tasks (such as plotting graphs and calculation speed).

Each worksheet is provided as a PDF for immediate use, but also with the original Word or Powerpoint file for easy adaptation.

Japan vs. Australia: Distances

Students do some research and make some basic calculations to compare the distances within Australia vs. distances within Japan.
An essential lead in to Year 8 History Shogunate Japan, this worksheet aims for students to realise the staggering difference in country size and population density of Australia and Japan. I will refer back to this task when I discuss the Tokaido Rd and the feudal system of Japan.
