This is a written examination for Japanese Continuers. It is designed to be the first assessment task for the Preliminary HSC Beginners Course in NSW Australia (Year 11), but could be adapted for tertiary-level intermediate students or used for adult education with an intermediate-level of experience for Japanese.
The format/layout of the examination mimics the look and feel of the HSC examination to familiarise students with the appearance of their final examinations.
The examination is divided into four sections. Each section consists of a reading passage in Hiragana/Katakana and some Kanji with subsequent questions designed to test the comprehension and understanding of each passage.
The examination was designed to work alongside Wakatta, a common textbook used to teach the NSW Japanese Continuers syllabus and tests content and knowledge gained in Chapters 1 and 2 of the Course Book (NOTE: This is not a reproduction of course book material, but original material pitched at the level taught in Wakatta).
The examination could be run in 1-2 hours depending on students' ability and experience.
This paper took over 4 hours to write, subedit and format to emulate the HSC layout/format, so save yourself the time and feel free to modify to your needs. I include the school's logo and the year on the cover page, but have excluded them for privacy in this version of the document.
