Students will be highly engaged with this fun activity!

Preparation: 4 different colored crayons or color pencils
2 hand outs (Katakana chart and activity sheet)

This resource comes with:

(1) Katakana Chart
(2) Activity sheet
(3) Answer Key

Goals: Introduce the students to all 46 Katakana characters in a fun way.

Before the activity

Please show how to count the strokes by using example letters.

Just count the number of strokes as you write each letter on a white board.

For older students (3rd graders and above), make sure that they know the stroke writing rules:

1) Go top to bottom
2) Go left to right
3) Horizontal lines first

For younger students, you can omit explaining the stroke writing rules to simplify it. They will learn them by watching you.

Just write the 7 letters shown below while counting the strokes aloud; very slow and clearly.

Letters with:

one stroke - ノ & フ
two strokes - カ & マ
three strokes - ウ & ロ
four strokes - ネ

This material is good for Japanese language beginners.

You can find the same game in Hiragana version as well in my products.
