PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This simulation is a culminating project for "From Isolation to Adaptation: Japan" portion of the Grade 8 Alberta Social Studies Curriculum. It focuses on the information related to the class system during the Edo Period. Students learn so much from this experience. It has students become involved and put themselves in the shoes of a shogun, farmer, outcast, samurai, merchant, artisan or non-human. This project develops research skills, effective communication, and develops cooperation.

On the day we presented this project, we took over our school gymnasium and completely transformed it into Edo Japan for the day. This in itself is magical, and excites the students. In addition, students are required to teach their peers and other students who come through our town and this is such an excellent experience for students, and really shows demonstration of knowledge.

Included in this package are:
-Introduction information
-Student handout/assignment sheet
-Rubric for grading students on this project

This simulation is easily adaptable for any project of study. I encourage you all to give this a try. The results are spectacular!
