This is an engaging (and tricky!) intro or filler activity for students reading The Great Gatsby. It only takes about 10-15 minutes for students to try to identify who wrote a line: the NY rapper Jay-Z, or the insecure genius of the 20's, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Often, students are surprised by how many lines they miss! I then use this activity as a way to ignite a discussion about the influence and timelessness of money, fame, sex, desire and the American Dream from across the decades. Answer key included!
