    Bundle Description

Jazz Instrumental Program Bundle is a collection of jazz band and jazz combo arrangements, along with jazz improv and ear training lessons (including play-along mp3s!). This is a COMPLETE PACKAGE to get your high school or middle school jazz program up and running, getting your students jammin' and beboppin' from day one!

There are ensemble charts for both big band and combos to handle whatever instrumentation you have available, along with some easy and fun jazz improvisation lessons that can be used individually or with an ensemble to help kids become more confident and proficient with jazz soloing.

★★★  EIGHT Jazz Ensemble Charts  ★★★

Included with each one: Jazz Scales, Jazz Licks and a Groove Practice ensemble vamp, which can be used to help students lock in the proper feel for the chart, as a band warm-up, or as a vehicle for practicing improvisation. Also included are audio demo mp3s that you can share with students to give them a better feel for each arrangement.

Lazy Dog Blues - an easy, medium-tempo jazz blues in the style of Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump" and Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues."

We Three Kings - a jazzy waltz treatment of the traditional Christmas carol. School bands love playing this one and it is a very popular staple for holiday concerts.

The Cat from Catalina - a laid-back latin jazz tune with a bossa nova feel, similar to Jobim's "Girl from Impanema."

Blue Goo Boogaloo - a funky, straight 8th-note bluesy boogaloo inspired by classic 1960s recordings like Lee Morgan's "Cornbread" and Herbie Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island."

Tree Tune - a jazz waltz, up-tempo but with a laid back feel, similar to Bill Evan's "Waltz for Debby" and Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" (though technically not a waltz, being in 5/4).

Pico de Gallo - this is a samba, a moderately fast two-beat feel, usually augmented by various percussion instruments, in the style of Pancho Sanchez or Clare Fischer's Salsa Picante band.

The Funky Falcon - a funk tune, reminiscent of 70's horn bands like Tower of Power and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Tides of Syzygy - a more contemporary jazz feel, where the 8th-notes are not swung but played straight—more like a bossa nova. The ensemble and chordal harmonies are more unusual, resulting in a sound that is less traditional and more mysterious.

    ★★★  FOUR Combo Charts  ★★★

Jazz scales are written for soloists, and each arrangement includes jazz solos for players new to improvisation. Simplified voicings for piano and guitar make them playable by everyone, and a bass line is included in the piano part for "key bass" if no bass player is available.

Coyote - a funk-rock chart inspired by Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay." A great feature for the rhythm section and easy chord changes so soloists can stretch out.

Diamondback - a medium-tempo blues boogaloo inspired by the Lee Morgan tune "Sidewinder." Beginning soloists may use a simple blues scale (provided) to play over the chord changes.

Rocco's Riff - an up-tempo minor swing tune in A-A-B-A form. Although the tune includes multiple chord changes, players can use just two major scales to create a solo with good results.

What Child Is This? - a jazz waltz update of the traditional Christmas carol. Although the tune includes multiple chord changes, players can use just one major scale to create a solo with good results.
