Product Description
PURPOSE
These je me présente activities combine guided tasks with open-ended rich tasks. They encourage active learning, creativity and are designed to facilitate differentiation. They are based on CEFR level A1 and are suitable for FSL Core French, Extended French or French Immersion - all grades from 1-8.

They are perfect for centres; however, they can be used in many ways. They are best done collaboratively so that students can practice listening and speaking while working on completing them.

ABOUT RICH TASKS
These activities are designed to be open-ended with a low entry point and a high ceiling. In other words, students will be able to face the challenge at their own level of development. A beginner might respond simply, while advanced students can be challenged to produce something more complex. As such, these tasks are appropriate for many different grade levels and for varying ability levels within each grade.

PREPARING THE TASK CARDS
It is recommended that you print the task cards on card stock and laminate them (or put them into page protectors). This enables them to be reused with dry-erase markers or crayons and conserves your photocopying budget. The game board activities would benefit from simple game pieces (e.g., dice, counters).

IDEAS FOR IMPLEMENTATION
Students can ‘choose their own adventure’ and direct their own learning
Incorporate them as part of a rotation of centres
Use them during a guided small group lesson

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
Some of the tasks suggest technology-integrated options. These suggestions are device and app neutral, meaning they make suggestions like ‘create a video’ rather than ‘use ABC app on XYZ device’. Students can then choose an appropriate tool to accomplish their goal based on what is available to them. No tech? No problem - it is not required.

ASSESSMENT
These task cards will work particularly well with a digital documentation tool (e.g., Seesaw, Sesame) that allows each student to capture photos, audio or videos of their work. This will allow each student to build a portfolio of products available to you for assessment purposes. Due to the nature of rich tasks, your expectations will vary based on each students’ current strengths and needs. For some students, single word answers are a success, while for others it will be complex sentences. As you observe students as they complete the tasks and have conversations with them about their learning, you will be able to fully assess their strengths and next steps.
