This activity was created for my Economics class but can be used for any subject/any grade level. Economics is the study of choice. When making choices, one should weigh the pros/cons of a choice being made and think about the consequences. In this activity, the students will read an excerpt from Les Mis (chapter that talks about what led to Valjean being imprisoned..history of Valjean) and analyze the choices he made. Students will have to think about a pro and a con to the choices he made (not necessarily in the reading but will have to list one that Valjean SHOULD HAVE thought about prior to making a choice). In the second activity (which you can choose to do with the first activity or not), they will read the next chapter where Valjean thinks about the choices he made (why he chose to escape four times knowing he would be caught AND sentenced more time in prison). You DO NOT have to read the novel to do this activity or know anything about Les Mis. I provided the novel excerpts for you (taken from an online website provided to you). If you have any questions, PLEASE message me.
