These five reading journal entries are designed to be completed while reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by R.L. Stevenson. Each entry requires students to interact with the text in two chapter blocks by writing on topics associated with major themes of the novel, plot points, symbols and metaphors, and more. For more advanced students or classes, I have also recommended a critical literary lens through which to address each prompt (Feminist/Gender, New Criticism, Psychoanalytic, etc.) and provided multiple question stems so teachers can pick and choose the difficulty level of each entry for differentiation purposes. Teachers may use these prompts as informal writing assignments or as quiz or test items, and the prompts may be used individually for discussion or collectively as an ongoing assignment to be completed in conjunction with the reading of the text. These prompts are intended for 11th or 12th grade Honors and On-Level British Literature or AP Literature students, but may be adapted to suit the needs of lower level students as well. This is the first submission to TpT by No Summers Off Educational Services.
