Product Description
Hands-on lab activity that utilizes jelly beans to model the impact phenotype and genotype have on a species' survival and population change.

Key Concepts
● Acquired vs Inherited Traits
● Phenotype
● Genotype
● Environmental influences on an organism’s phenotype

About This Activity:
Students work in collaborative groups to reinforce their understanding of genotype and phenotype and acquired vs inherited traits, as well as, introduce the idea of natural selection. Students “hunt” for jelly beans and record the data, making inferences about the most and least captured jelly bean phenotypes. Students should draw conclusions on how populations and the species’ traits change over time.
