What a great activity for Easter! I like to give my students a plastic egg with jelly beans at the end of the activity – or even to munch on during the activity (if they can still pay attention)!
This product contains header cards for the six types of syllables, syllable cards for each type of syllable (USE ONLY THE TYPES OF SYLLABLES YOUR STUDENTS KNOW – YOU CAN ALWAYS COME BACK AND USE ALL THE CARDS WHEN THE STUDENTS ARE READY), a cut and paste worksheet, and lists of the syllables and the two-syllable words they can make with the syllable cards when the sort is finished.

Print, laminate and cut out the syllable header cards and the syllable cards. Lay the syllable headers and on the table. The students take turns reading the syllable cards and placing under the correct type of syllable. When the sort is completed, students combine syllables to make two-syllable words. They can then use these two syllable words to complete the cut and paste worksheet. Not all syllables can be used to make two syllable words. Some of the syllables are words on their own, others are nonsense syllables until combined with other syllables to make words.
