Jenga Phonics was inspired by Hope King (of Elementary Shenanigans and the Ron Clark Academy). She does so much to engage her students! I found myself needing to practice multisyllabic words in a fun way with an intervention group and this is what I came up with. The phonics pages correspond with Literacy First’s phonics continuum and include both real words and made up (pseudo) words.

MAKING YOUR JENGA SET:
I found my set of Jenga blocks at a thrift store, but you can buy them at Wal-Mart or Amazon. I’ve even seen mini Jenga blocks at Dollar Tree! Then I used 6 colors (pink, blue, orange, yellow, green, and purple) of craft paint to paint both ends of each block.
HOW TO PLAY:
I recommend playing in a small group after you’ve taught the phonics skill. I’ve played with each student getting a paper copy of the phonics skill page, but you could also laminate the sheets so you can use them over and over.
First, stack the blocks with three blocks in each layer, alternating the direction the blocks face. Then one student will declare which color block he/she wants to pull. Then the student reads one word from that column and crosses it out. Once the word has been read, the student may pull a block (not from the top three rows) and then place the block on top of the stack. Play around the circle. If the tower falls over, everyone works together to build it and play again!
*For the consonants and vowel pages, decide if students will say the letter name or the letter sound.
