Do you host any French-speaking exchange students in your district? If so, it can sometimes be hard to find fun ways to engage them in a FLE class while keeping your own students motivated and willing to talk with native speakers.
I created this activity to break the ice between our French visitors and my own students. Students play this game in small groups with a mix of French and American students...French "vs" Americans. Each teams tries to pronounce words in the other team's native language that are notoriously difficult for non-native speakers. For instance, imagine the French kiddos trying to pronounce "squirrel" or the Americans trying to pronounce "fourrure!"
Needless to say, everyone makes mistakes and much hilarity ensues. In my classes, this results in the kids loosening up and shedding their self-consciousness about accents and wanting to speak perfectly. It has been a lifesaver for me in building a group rapport and positive dynamic amongst diverse students from different cultures. Amusez-vous!
