This document presents the way to teach French verbs that I regularly use in class. It can be included in the morning routine or used as a literacy center. Students love it! I successfully used the method in grade 2 French Immersion as well as in grade 8 Core French.
Verbs reviewed in this set are SAVOIR, POUVOIR, DIRE, LIRE, ÉCRIRE, METTRE, FAIRE.
It’s actually a game. In class I call it “le jeu de l’escalier”. Students are paired; each pair should have one game board (a worksheet with a ladder and verbs that you want them to study), two game chips, one dice and 2 pencils. The goal of the game is to be the first to climb up the ladder. At the beginning of the game both players are at the first step of the ladder. Every turn, each player will either move up one step or repeat the same step, depending on the results of the previous turn.
Before giving this game to students, I usually review the studied verbs in class, one at a time. I also give to students information sheets with the right verb forms to study at home. The information sheets are included in the package as well.
