Possible Ways to Use the Mats:
Place a magnetic letter, letter flashcard, or write/say a letter and ask students find its upper/case lower match (vice versa)
Provide a sound and have students find the matching picture or provide students with a word and have them find another picture with the same initial sound
Word Segmenting/Syllables w/ Vocab & Comprehension Practice:
Orally break the word into syllable chunks and have students blend the word & find the picture or Give students clues until students find the match Ex: 2 Syllable Word, a food, & sometimes has sprinkles - ”What is it?” A DONUT
Flash student vocabulary words of numbers and have them find the number match on the smash page. (Can also ask them to find a number that is greater/less)
Orally give students numbers and have them locate the match on the smash mat. Show the student number format or written format and match. Or, give the students a compose/decompose problem and find the answer match!
Use Flash Cards or Provide students an oral or written sentence using the sight word and smash the matching word on their mat
Provide students with the individual sounds, practice blending, and smash the correct response when ready
