Sentence work - Children work on reading, sentence formation, punctuation, spelling and letter formation skills as they use the jigsaw pieces in this literacy center to create sentences.
In this pack you will find:
- 9 six word sentences on different colored jigsaw pieces
- 3 pages of extra words
- “fill in the missing words” worksheets (in color and b&w)
- “write the sentences” worksheets (in color and b&w)
- “write and draw” worksheets (in color and b&w)
- an answer sheet to encourage self assessment
Each sentence is made up of 6 words on jigsaw pieces of the same colour. Print, cut and laminate the pieces and ask the child to put the words in the right order to make the sentence. Draw their attention to the capital letter at the beginning and the period or question mark at the end. Once they have made all 9 sentences they can use them to fill in the worksheets. There is also an answer sheet for them to self assess their work.
The sentences can also be displayed in a pocket chart to practice reading skills. Each word included in the center is either a high frequency word or a CVC word that can be easily sounded out.
The pack also contains extra words on a different color jigsaw piece that can be added to allow the child to create his or her own sentences. They can then write and illustrate these sentences using the worksheets provided.
