In this gallery walk, active engagement is facilitated as students walk throughout the classroom, rotating though six stations. As students work together in small groups they are encouraged to share ideas and respond to meaningful questions relating to five historic events from the Jim Crow Era.
This lesson is appropriate for middle and high school level United States History and English courses.
Work with a partner or in small groups of three. Rotate through all six stations, spending 6-7 minutes at each station. Answer questions for each image included in the “Gallery Walk.”
Teacher randomly assign photo(s) to teams or individuals. Answer questions for image(s) assigned.
Assign all slides (photographs and questions) as homework.
