During the teaching of To Kill a Mockingbird, it is important for students to understand what was happening in the country during the 1930s. Therefore, before we begin the book, they familiarize themselves with civil rights and persecution put forth by the Jim Crow Laws. This project breaks down several different aspects of the time period, each small group focusing on one. They students are responsible for a multi-faceted project (PowerPoint with lots of pictures and info, and a short essay). This will inform them of the time period and make the book resonate more as they familiarize with the history.
