Teach your students to look for the common "chunk" patterns within words with this song. Teach "ang, ing, ong, and ung" through a fun familiar tune that will have your students singing their way through reading 47 words that end with this pattern. Open the door to many other words that contain this chunk within the word. Also, teach rhyming and the phonemic awareness skill of substituting the first sound in a word.
Look for the multimedia file created by Kathy Griffin that goes with Jingle Bell Word Families. Use it on your interactive whiteboard or Smart Board to highlight words, patterns, and strategies.
