This item is a project for students in seventh-grade. (You could use it with older students too). It goes along with Prentice Hall Literature by Pearson - pgs. 154 - 159. (You can use this project by itself too)!
Reading for Information - Analyzing Functional Texts - Application and Contract
The project asks students to read information about three different places that offer jobs in their community, Fareway, Casey's General Store, and Subway. They have to come up with five different reasons that they would want to apply for a job at one of those places. They will be asked to cite specific reasons why from their reading. Then students have to fill out the job application for that particular job. This is very real-world and has them practice doing something that will be necessary for them to get a job.
I provide you with the packet for students to read information about Fareway, Casey's General Store, and Subway. The packet also includes the worksheet students will use to list their reasons. Included are the websites to download all of the job applications and two rubrics (one based on the core curriculum and the other on the project criteria).
When students are done filling out the job application, I included the sheet groups can use to analyze the applications.
