Do you use the HBO series John Adams to help your students visualize the Revolutionary War era? The series is available on Amazon Prime (free to stream!) and is a great tool for educators.
I use the clip from Part 2: Independence, and only show 00:00-34:00. It helps students understand the First and Second Continental Congress, the differing opinions amongst the colonies, and the debates that led to decisions about war and independence for the colonies.
In my classroom, I pick a student to "work the controls" on the media player. Then the class works together to complete the interactive notes. They rewind and re-watch as needed to complete the activity accurately. It forces them to work together to verify facts and check for understanding.
The interactive notes are organized in a timeline to help students understand the time order.
