John Adams Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- This is a 12 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 33 questions based on a History Channel video (The U.S. Presidents Series on YouTube) and the History.com website.
Students will begin this assignment by watching the U.S. Presidents Series Video: John Adams (on YouTube). The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of John Adam's presidency. This video will first analyze what kind of person John Adams was, a dedicated American who was worthy of the presidency, but not very well suited for the job. His following in the footsteps of George Washington, elitism, and poor management skills are all reviewed and are applied to his presidency. The two main issues of his presidency, the XYZ Affair and the Aliens and Sedition Acts, are then discussed in detail. His election defeat to Thomas Jefferson in 1800 and lasting legacy (the United States Navy) are the final topics covered by the video. Following the video, students will proceed to the History.com website and read a biographical article about John Adams. His early years and education, his wife Abigail, his role in the Constitutional Congress and many missions to Europe, and his years after the presidency are all covered in this reading. The article also goes into more detail about the XYZ Affair and the Aliens and Sedition Acts.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
