A detailed analysis of John Dryden’s brilliant poem on the power of music, “Alexander’s Feast.” My handout will concentrate on its background, themes, symbolism, and structure. Dryden does not have to be difficult, boring, or irrelevant if your students have a handout, such as mine, which allows them to discover how accessible and engaging this poem is. My handout, which has blanks that your students can fill in, is excellent for homework and will prepare students to discuss in class the enticing power of music—and of poetry! An answer key is provided on a separate page at the end of the handout. Prepared by Professor William Tarvin, Ph.D., who has published many articles on literature in scholarly journals.
