The Visible Learning lesson plan utilises John Hattie's research to structure your lesson. Simple, effective, organised.
The document is well formatted and structured. It explicitly states the goal(s), reasons for learning, and title of the lesson through the 'We Are Learning To (WALT), This Is Because (TIB), and What I Am Looking For (WILF)' headings. It fits neatly onto a one page document that can be filled out directly (without expanding the text boxes), or printed and written by hand.
The Visual Learning Lesson Plan integrates assessment measures, or 'Checks For Understanding' (CFU), into its three activity slots. Some tips for formatively assessing your students are given at the base of the document. Considerations for student instruction are included in the far left column of each activity.
The document includes 'student focus', 'teacher focus', and time frame columns in order to help teachers (especially beginners) organise, prepare and visualise their lessons. A 'hook/do now' section allows teachers to engage students and begin the lesson with discussions, activities, or videos in order to capture their attention.
The Visible Learning Lesson Plan is designed for classes of roughly forty minutes to one hour, however the time frames can easily be adjusted by adding additional activity boxes. Simply copy and paste.
