: John Chapman, often referred to as Johnny Appleseed, was born on September 26, 1774. His birthday is a great time to discuss some important vocabulary related to his life. Use this activity alone or combine it with other apple activities you might be using on this date. If your students are like mine, they will love this Johnny Appleseed themed word search activity.
In this Johnny Appleseed puzzle, words are found forward, backward, up, down, and diagonally. I would consider it on the challenging side since students are looking for words in all directions.
I use word searches to introduce vocabulary, or even just give it as morning work. They are also great to glue in writing notebooks for future writing topics. Perfect for a sub, too. You could use the word list to have students write a short informational paper using the words, especially if you have watched a video or read a book about his life. You could use it as homework or it makes a great early finisher activity. Use this Johnny Appleseed word search however you would like in your classroom.
