This is a week's lesson using Johnny Appleseed by Steven Kellogg.
You will read the story on Monday. Each day after, you will read a portion of the story, review vocabulary content (great vocabulary in this book!) and answer text dependent questions about what was read. There are 4 days of plans, where the teacher/class work together in a modeled/supported lesson. By Friday, the students could move to a writing piece, dependent upon content learned and shared during the week.
I did this lesson with my first graders last year (Fall) and with support, my students learned so much content (facts) and great vocabulary (boisterous, exhausted, cellar, orchard, and more).
Includes the Common Core Standards. See the preview for more information.
Please consider following me as I create more close reading activities. I teach with Macmillan Treasures (First Grade) and love bringing more informational text within the classroom. Thank you!
