These activities were designed to be used as a low prep option for work stations during the guided reading block. Tasks are simple, engaging, and designed with review of skills previously taught in mind. These activities were intended for use in word work and work on writing:
~Work on Writing
My Own Story….Print, laminate and cut the vocabulary cards apart for durability. Hang them on a ring or on a bulletin board in your writing station for students to use as a reference for correct spelling.
Prepositions….Print, copy, laminate and cut puzzles apart for student use. The puzzles are self checking with matching clip art shrunk in the bottom right corner of the sentence piece. Students will reflect over the activity by using 3 of the sentences to create a small book and underlining the prepositional phrase in each sentence. There is also an accompanying mini-poster for the writing area.
Declarative or Interrogative?….Print, copy, laminate and cut apart for students to read sentences missing end punctuation. Students will sort sentences according to type and mark the end of the sentence with an apple displaying the appropriate end punctuation mark.
ABC Order…Print, cut, and laminate for durability. Students will use the cards to arrange the words in ABC order, then follow directions to record their work neatly on the reflection sheet.
Consonant Digraphs….Print, cut apart and laminate for durability. Consider using in a large pocket chart for students to decode and sort by digraph. There is a mini-poster provided.
Sight Word Color, Stamp and Write Print a copy for each student. Provide crayons, alphabet stamps and pencils for students to practice sight words relevant to reading about Johnny Appleseed.
