The journal checklist is a self-evaluation tool for students. They can use it after writing daily journal entries, but can also be used for any type of writing. The checklist helps students carefully look at the following areas:
illustration correlation to sentences
complete thoughts in sentences
After students fill out their checklists, teachers can mark their own assessment of how students performed on each area. This would provide students the opportunity to compare how they think they did with their teacher’s assessment.
To get started with the journal checklist, just copy and cut into quarters. After conferring with student, staple or paper clip onto writing sample.
