These Journal Entries were created for 5th grade students to help prepare them for the higher demands of middle school. They do not require cutting little pieces to be glued in a specific area in the journal; rather, content is to the point and saves valuable time especially for a 3-way switch and for our students who struggle to keep up with the rest of the class. These detailed journals can serve as: a guide while students complete problems during the math block, an aid for parents as they help their child complete math homework, an open note option when students take quizzes, a study guide for unit tests, and as a reference when completing state test prep work.
Two Sets of Journal entries are included. One set lists the Module and the Lesson that correlates with the journal entry content and the second set lists only the title of the journal entry, as different counties and states use different curriculum to teach each standard.
I also included an entry called “Self – Assess While you Work”. I hand these out with lessons that I know students have struggled with in the past. They glue this on the left side as a FLAP, on top of the original journal entry or as a separate entry.
A KEY is included with every journal entry; the answers are highlighted in yellow.
