These journal pages will be a great addition to your student's weekly journal or to add to an ABC journal. These journal pages have space for a picture, space to write a word of what they are drawing and students are able to trace the letter.
In my classroom, we have a weekly sharing time. Students bring in an item that starts with a specific letter of the alphabet. I write student's name on the whiteboard along with what they brought and a small picture of the item. (I'm not an artist, but a simple picture works great). After sharing time, students draw a picture of their favorite item. They can draw anything that someone brought or what they brought. As their writing progresses, they begin to write the name of the picture they drew. Then they trace the letter they are working on. This activity helps children begin to link writing, beginning sounds, journal skills, and more.
At the end of the year, I compile all of their journal entries along with a weekly coloring page of the letter we are working on into one large journal. This makes a great keepsake along with a great assessment tool.
