This graphic organizer works well for higher level students that understand how to write a paragraph. It allows the students to choose topic sentences, one per paragraph, and 4 details to go with each. I taught my students how to use this graphic organizer by modeling it for them once. Some students may require more than one model. I explained to them that their last sentence in each color coded section could either be a concluding sentence, or a sentence that leads the reader to the next paragraph. I have also posted a follow up outline that goes with this graphic organizer that allows the students to transfer their graphic organizer to paragraph form. I usually consider that their rough draft. Once the students have edited their work, I allow them to type a final copy.
