Suggestions for Use:
Week 1 – Begin with the Writing Inventory. Project it on your white board and have students copy it down and fill in the blanks with their own words in their writing notebooks. This will give you a feel for your students. Then, go over the writing process. Explain each step of the process with your students. You may want to have them copy this down in their notebooks, print it as a handout for their notebook, or post it somewhere in the room.
Week 2 – Begin with Prompt 1. Each day, give students time to work on the different parts of the writing process. Monday – Prewriting, Tuesday – Drafting, Wednesday – Revising (Discuss the Writing Checklist), Thursday – Editing, and Friday – Publishing the Final Draft.
Week 3 – Use Prompt 2. Each day, follow through the same steps as you did with Week 2. The slides are again written for each step of the writing process.
Week 4 – 16. Once the students have completed the routine for two weeks, they should be familiar with each part of the writing process and you can just post the prompt for each week and let them work at their own pace, with a goal in place to have their work complete by Friday of each week.
